Kay Danes awarded the American Ingenuity Award
On 13 December 2024, Mr Shawn VanDiver, President and Chairman of #AfghanEvac officially notified Dr Kay Danes of her selection for the prestigious "American Ingenuity Award." The award recognizes outstanding service by Congressional caseworkers, federal agency staff, NGO workers, volunteers, and individuals from all walks of American life who provided crucial support to American allies seeking safety from the Taliban following the U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan.
From 2021 to 2024, Dr Kay Danes, OAM coordinated the security and evacuation of thousands of at-risk Afghans from Afghanistan. Through negotiations with key stakeholders and government departments in the United States, Australia, Afghanistan, and neighboring safe havens, Kay secured positive resettlement outcomes for evacuees. Among those she helped were female Supreme Court judges, athletes, journalists, men, women, children (both able-bodied and disabled), and Locally Engaged Employees (military, police, embassy staff, interpreters, etc.) who had provided crucial support to the United States and its allies. Each of these individuals faced significant risk of execution or indefinite imprisonment if captured.
Kay's contributions were significant to both the United States and Australia. Her efforts saved the lives of thousands of people who would otherwise have faced brutal execution.
