Writing Career

Kay Danes is a non-fiction published author of Families Behind Bars (New Holland), Standing Ground (New Holland) and Beneath the Pale Blue Burqa (Big Sky Publishing).

Her writing career began in the 1990s as an editorial assistant to historian author Geoff Spiller on his publication 'Tanglehead' - The Breweries of Albany & Other Southern Communities of Western Australia. (Currently providing editorial assistance to his fourth book: Qld Breweries.)

In honour of the sacrifices made by Australian Defence Servicemen, Kay authored 'A Collection of War Poems' that were published in a Brisbane Writer's Anthology.

In 1995, Kay was appointed Editor of 'The Sandgroper' - a Defence Family Magazine circulated to over 2000 Defence families in Western Australia. The publication eventually became a Tri-Service magazine distributed across Western Australia to Navy, RAAF and Army.

Kay was Editor of the prestigious Claremont Yacht Club Magazine and Editor of the SASR Museum Newsletter. Kay has also authored several security training manuals for use in Australia and overseas.

In 2011, Kay was appointed Patron of the Gold Coast Writer's Association.
